As new designers, we do make mistakes, here are some mistakes most made by designers.
1. Producing two or more design concepts that are very similar
This is something I remember doing in one of my first design jobs. You get asked to come up with ideas for the design of a logo (or other piece of design) and instead of designing 3 very different options you put in the same idea that you have done slightly differently – for example changed the font and colour or created the icon in a slightly different style. I soon learned that if the client didn’t like the first idea, then chances were they wouldn’t like the two similar ones either. With 3 very different options hopefully one design would be heading in the right direction.
At one point it was thought that designers simply had creative input into the online look and feel or ‘brand’ of an online project, whilst more ‘technical’ developers, or html coders would build the actual site.
But this has certainly changed and, whilst not all graphic designers are involved in website design – many preferring to stay in the print design world – those that do venture into online design have swiftly taken on many new skills.

A bachelor’s degree is required for most entry-level design positions, and candidates with a master’s degree hold an advantage.
Formal training for some design professions also is available in 2-year and 3-year professional schools that award associate degrees or certificates in design. Graduates of 2-year programs normally qualify as assistants to designers.
